Recall of Thomas Trains

Recalled TrainsThis news struck fear into my heart at the thought of having to take away some of my son’s favorite toys: The manufacturer of the popular Thomas & Friends wooden trains is recalling a number of models because of a high level of lead in the surface paint. It recommends you take the trains away from children immediately. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has the details.

Luckily, it turns out my son only has a couple of the models in question, and got them before the starting sale date of the dangerous batch. Phew. This means I can focus on the pending marriage crisis in Massachusetts instead of a railroad crisis at home.

  1. My son has nearly every one of the trains listed, but I can’t find any manufacturing codes on them to determine if they’re part of the recall. This will be a major headache!

  2. I can’t believe that these jerks charged us 20$ per toy choo choo and used lead paint. This makes me very angry.

  3. Ooo, we have three of these in the house and this is the first I’d heard of the lead paint. Thanks so much for posting it!

  4. Look at the interior of the wheels. There should be a copyright date in raised lettering. If it is 2004 or earlier, you should be ok.
As far as I can tell, the problems with the lead paint started when the RC2 corporation bought learning curve in 2005.
