Lesbian Moms, Queer Daughter: One Story

speech_bubbleIt’s a myth that LGBTQ parents will necessarily have LGBTQ kids. Some will, however, simply because some percentage of parents, LGBTQ and not, always will. At COLAGE’s KidSafe blog, Sonya, who identifies as queer and has lesbian moms, writes about being a “second-gen” LGBTQ person — but also about how she and her moms have “Two Separate Identities.”

She says, “The stereotypes and assumptions made by the straight community towards second gen colagers can present a struggle by themselves, but what is discussed less often is the personal feelings that come along with being second gen, and the pressures put on we may put on ourselves.”

“Did being around more Lesbian culture affect my attraction to girls?” she asks. “How was I supposed to explain that this was not the case when I exemplified what so many people thought?”

Great questions — and she gives a great answer. Hope you’ll go have a read.
