Nikon USA has featured gay dads Kordale and Kaleb—whose photo about doing their daughters’ hair went viral last year—as part of a new marketing campaign.
The two dads are featured in a video and photo gallery as part of “an immersive website featuring the content of a select group of creative individuals representing some of the eyes and voices of this generation.” The website is the hub for the company’s “I AM Generation Image” campaign, which seeks “to amplify the voices of individuals who want to stand out in a world of visual noise.”
The dads’ photo went viral almost exactly a year ago. In their video for Nikon, they talk about the impact of that event, and explain, “We just want people to know that, hey, we’re normal. And you can’t judge people on their normal. . . . Those kids have our heart, and I can’t sit here and explain to you in words why we feel the way that we feel about our children. But those are our kids, and no one else can tell me anything different.” They talk about using their camera “to better explain to anybody the type of family we are, with the pictures and the things that we’ve done, and how we raised them.”
Although I don’t post a lot of my photos here, I’m a long-time Nikon user, and proud to have inherited one from my dad, who was an award-winning amateur landscape photographer. It’s great to see the company incorporating Kordale and Kaleb and their three kids into a campaign.
I can’t embed the video here, so I encourage you to go and view the family’s section of the campaign site. Thanks to the whole family for sharing a bit of their lives with the world.
