Summer is often a time for travel, and three lesbian mom vloggers are sharing their travel tales with us. Take a look!
In “Baby Ace: City Boy vs. Country Boy!” Ray of OurNormalLifeAtlanta takes us along on the first trip she and her spouse Avery took with their son to visit his grandmother.
And in “Flying with a Baby,” single lesbian mom by choice Athena Reich of Baby Steps offers some tips on how to manage with an infant on an airplane.
Ray and Avery, who met when they were both at the Atlanta Police Academy, have been vlogging for over two years, since first trying to start their family. They were also plaintiffs in a marriage equality lawsuit against the state of Georgia. Athena, an actor and musician, just launched her series last month, in partnership with GO Magazine, and the video above is only her fourth. Both series are worth watching, however, for their engaging and different takes on the enterprise of lesbian parenting. (I did frown a bit, however, when Athena said in her first video that when she wanted a child, she “did what any clock-ticking lesbian would do: I bought myself some sperm.” Let’s not forget that some clock-ticking lesbians choose to adopt.)
My spouse and I took our own son on an airplane when he was only five weeks old, and then again at six months. Despite his younger age, the first trip was easier, as he slept more. During the second trip, he was awake and fussy for much of the time, only falling asleep on the train at the end, right before we met with family. Of course. Still, I think that traveling with kids when they’re young, by plane or train or car or backpack, helps them learn to be adaptable as they get older.a
