This video about two moms-to-be waiting for pregnancy results might be the funniest thing you’ll see all day. Take three minutes to watch.
The video was made by and stars Nicole and Lyndsey from Two Dykes and a Tyke. They take a humorous look at some of the many things—useful, superstitious, and in between—that they did to try and influence their pregnancy results.
Turns out they were using reciprocal IVF, with one contributing the eggs and the other growing them, just as my spouse and I did. They’ve also done a video about the egg retrieval process and the giant progesterone shot Nicole had to take to prepare for the egg transfer. (My spouse Helen still talks about her own progesterone shot with slight horror.) I’m glad they made videos—Helen and I did all this in the days before YouTube, so there’s no video record. I did write about our experience with reciprocal IVF, though, and I hope that’s useful to some of you, too. (One difference between our process and theirs, apparently: Our doctor told us the hormones we were on meant that the standard pregnancy test sticks wouldn’t work. We had to wait for a blood test.)
Nicole and Lyndsey put it all into hysterical perspective, though—and I use “hysterical” both in the sense of “really funny” and the original sense of “having to do with wombs.” Enjoy!
