“This Is Home” Podcast Seeks to Expand Understanding of Families

This Is HomeI have a very long commute to my day job, which means I listen to a lot of podcasts. One new favorite is “This Is Home,” which takes a broad and inclusive look at families today.

The podcast’s mission is “to tell stories that expand the understanding of what family means to be more inclusive and reflective of the kind of families we see and experience every day — in all of their beautiful and messy forms.”

Hosted by Erica Gerard and Emily Skehan, and produced by them in conjunction with Christina Lindstrom, the show has three episodes so far. Two profile the Lindstroms, who fostered children alongside their biological ones. Episode One focuses on the mother, and Episode Two on one of their (now grown) foster sons. The third episode interviews advocate and TED speaker Mia Birdsong, who “talks about single mom shaming, representation of black families, and the ways our policies don’t reflect reality for our families today.”

Here’s the Season 1 teaser, which explains more. Have a listen, visit their website, and subscribe through iTunes or your favorite podcasting app!
