“If These Ovaries Could Talk,” a fun and informative new podcast by two lesbian moms, shares stories of baby making and other aspects of raising and caring for our families. Meet them and have a listen!
Robin Hopkins and Jaimie Kelton, both lesbian moms and actors, launched their podcast earlier this month, and now have two full episodes out, with another to follow shortly. In the first episode, Jaimie and her spouse Anne discuss their journey to parenthood through infertility; in the second, they feature Robin and her wife Mary’s story, which includes a trip to Bogota, Columbia, for an insemination. Going forward, they promise us weekly guests who will talk about “their hopes, dreams, fears and setbacks when bringing a new life into the world with a lot of love and a good amount of science.”
They should have added “and a lot of laughs.” While the show isn’t a comedy, Robin has a background as a stand-up comic, and both she and Jaimie bring performers’ sensibilities to keep the banter and storytelling entertaining even as it informs. They also get points for a very clever logo, designed by Mary.
When she’s not podcasting, Jaimie is an actor, singer, dancer, and voiceover artist based in New York City. She has over 17 years of experience performing on stages there, as well as in regional theaters, on national tours, and on a cruise ship. She is a recipient of the Helen Hayes Award for excellence in professional theater in the Washington, D.C. area. She has also done voiceover work for Disney’s hit cartoon, The Octonauts, and Amazon’s upcoming Bug Diaries. She lives with her wife, two children, and tiny dog in Manhattan.
Robin is an actor, writer, and producer who began her career as a stand-up comic. She is a frequent contributor to Medium and HuffPo with essays featured in the Parents and Queer Voices sections. Robin is also an accomplished playwright. Her one-woman show, In Search of Tulla Berman, debuted to sold-out crowds in San Francisco with subsequent runs in Winnipeg, Canada, and New York City. Her film and TV credits include Boardwalk Empire, Louie, and Hindsight and some really great “big hands acting” on Celebrity Ghost Stories and Monsters Inside Me. Most recently, she produced, wrote, and acted in the comedic digital short series Stupid Michelle & Dumb Robin.
