Family Equality’s Hostetter-Habib Family Award: I’m Honored–but You Deserve Credit

Night at the PierI’m humbled and proud to share that Family Equality Council is honoring me with the 2018 Hostetter-Habib Family Award, given in honor of Alex Habib, Mark Hostetter, and their entire family to “an individual who has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our core values of love, justice, family, and equality.” If I’ve been unwavering, though, it’s because my family—and all of you, readers—have been right there with me.

The award will be given at Family Equality’s annual Night at the Pier on May 7 in New York City, a splendid gala that is sure to be a wonderful time. Also being honored is a journalist I’ve long admired, Katie Couric, who is being recognized for her work on the 2017 documentary Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric for National Geographic (which I happened to review). I’m even more humbled to be mentioned on the same page with her.

I may be the one awarded, but all of you also deserve credit for commenting, sharing posts, suggesting topics, correcting me when I was wrong, participating in my annual Blogging for LGBTQ Families Day (about which more very soon), and whatever else you may do to make the world a better place for your own and all families. We are a diverse and wonderful community and we each have something different to offer.

My deepest thanks to Family Equality for this award and for all they do for all of our families.
