My two-year-old son just received a subscription to Wild Animal Baby, a magazine for one to four year olds published by the National Wildlife Federation. It comes ten times per year, and is packed with age-appropriate stories, games, and activity ideas, all animal related. We very much enjoy it, and recommend it to any animal-loving toddler. (That’s just about all of them, isn’t it?) NWF also publishes Your Big Backyard, a magazine for three to seven year olds. While we haven’t seen this one, I assume the quality of Wild Animal Baby continues. Finally, for teens, NWF offers Ranger Rick, which I read and loved as a child, but had forgotten about until my son got Wild Animal Baby. These also make great gift ideas—a little more unusual than the latest Elmo/Rescue Heroes/Barbie action figures.
The NWF Web site itself also has lots of activity ideas, printable coloring pages, and more for little ones.
I bet he loves it. Kristin has a subscription to Zootles, compliments of her gramps. Often it is the bedtime story and we’ll end up reading it dozens of times.
