Tomorrow Is Blogging for LGBT Families Day

Blogging for LGBT Families DayTomorrow is Blogging for LGBT Families Day. I’m very excited by the response. Thanks to all of you who have already indicated that you’ll join us, and who have promoted the event on your blogs. If you haven’t yet, it’s not too late. To participate, just write a relevant post, then link, comment or e-mail to let me know. (Details here.)

To ensure we get the best turnout possible, I’d appreciate it if you would post reminder notices today, with links to the main event site:

Participating bloggers so far include lesbian moms, gay dads, adult children of LGBT parents, members of the transgender community, other LGBT individuals, and straight allies. Countries represented include the U. S., Australia, Canada, and the U. K.

Both the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and Lambda Legal are promoting the event on their sites. Thanks to both of them for their support.

The choice of topic for your contributed posts is up to you. If you’re stuck for ideas, however, here are some suggestions:

  • How parenting and/or marriage laws affect your family, positively or negatively.
  • A personal anecdote about how your family is the same as others, or different from them.
  • A bit of inclusion that means a lot, e.g., “Parent” and “Parent” on school and medical forms, instead of “Mother” and “Father.”
  • What you as a straight person from a non-LGBT family have learned from knowing an LGBT family.
  • Why acceptance of all types of families is important for your community and/or country.

Personal, political, profound, funny . . . I welcome it all. Let’s show the diversity of our families and our support for equal rights.

Thanks for your help in this final push. I look forward to reading your contributions.
