“Gingerbread Houses”: Martha Strikes First

Graham Cracker Gingerbread HouseI was all set to write about making “gingerbread” houses from graham crackers, an easy, clever project my son did in art class this weekend. Turns out Martha Stewart beat me to it. (Thanks to Blogging Baby for the sighting.)

I’m including, nevertheless, a photo of the house my son decorated, to prove that one doesn’t need to build a house in the Tudor style to have fun with this.

Peeps Marshmallow SnowmanMartha’s instructions for basic assembly are here, and I can’t really improve on them. I will, however, suggest using Peeps Marshmallow Snowmen to people your candy home. For small children, Peeps may be easier than assembling snowpeople from parts, a la Martha. (I’m usually the type who doesn’t even buy pre-made salad dressing, but hey, anything in the name of holiday fun.)

Where’s the lesbian-mom twist? Well, if you’re ambitious, you can try using some diluted food coloring and a paintbrush to make two Peeps snowmoms, and trim a Peep to make a child. Haven’t tried it myself, but if you do, send me a pic.
