Today is the start of the WNBA preseason, giving me a needed dose of women’s-sports watching to tide me over until Wimbledon starts at the end of June.
I am, as it happens, hopelessly inept at actually playing basketball (and softball, for that matter), but am finding I have to raise my game this year. My almost-four-year-old son has started a preschool sports class, and is learning b-ball basics like the bounce pass and hurling the ball in the general direction of the net. I think I can handle that much. The first televised WNBA game isn’t until May 19th, but I’m sure we’ll be watching. Maybe we’ll both pick up some pointers.
Yay to the WNBA starting again. However, I can never get into it as much as college b-ball. I think it’s the time of year that the WNBA plays. Spring and summer are the time for baseball for me. Fall and winter mean basketball. Anyhow…
I can’t wait until my son (he’s currently 20 mos) gets to the age that we can play catch and I can teach him the wonderful intricacies of basketball, baseball, football, etc.
Agreed. It is fun sharing sports with our kids. Problem is, I did all these weird sports, like fencing, taekwondo, and rock climbing. I can’t wait to pass on the skills, if he’s interested, but I know he’s going to need to know the more traditional American sports, too. At least I can explain basketball and baseball, even if I can’t play them.
Hi,
I just wrote an article on Sheryl Swoopes, which includes her talking about her son Jordan, and the children’s book she wrote..
