A few articles about lesbian moms came to my attention this week:
- Michael Gartner writes in USA Today: “My cute grandson is one of more than 1,400 children living in Iowa households headed by same-sex couples.” It’s a great piece by the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, blending both personal anecdote and hard data to show that the U.S. is becoming a more tolerant nation—and that this is a good thing.
- A lesbian couple in Los Angeles welcomed quadruplets to their existing family of seven. They can now field an entire soccer team. (One of the moms is named Dana, but it’s not me, I swear. You think I’d be blogging with eleven kids?) They seem to be taking the new additions in stride. Best wishes to them.
- The Pomona College Magazine profiled moms Marcia Hams and Susan Shepherd, who had a son in 1980, before the so-called “gayby boom,” but later became the first same-sex Massachusetts couple to receive a marriage license. (Thanks to Erin for sending it to me. The article appeared in 2006, but since it was in a small publication, I thought it worth another mention.)
