Among the first same-sex couples to marry in Connecticut were lesbian moms Peg Oliveira and Jen Vickery. The New York Times reports “Ms. Oliveira proposed in the aisles of IKEA.” How lesbian is that?
The couple wed today outside City Hall in New Haven with their three-month-old daughter, Willow, and several friends. No word on whether they served lingonberry juice at the reception.
(Helen and I did a vlog back in May about why we love the Swedish furniture giant, and giving hints for IKEA-shopping parents. We’re not the only ones who feel this way; the gals at Lesbian Gamers think it’s oh-so-dykey too.)
Recently my ex came to visit me, my partner and our toddler with her partner and toddler. She immediately noticed that we have the same IKEA changing table.
IKEA is one of those rare places that unites gay men, lesbians, the DINK couples, and those with 2.5 kids. Good quality, low prices and attractive design. What’s not to like?
Here in Australia, Ikea is known as Dykea (in the community). My straight co-workers find that hilarious but strangely accurate as they apparently see lesbians every time they go there.
Ikea has some powerful effects on people, as this video explains: http://tinyurl.com/7oem7m
