The Wall Street Journal (via DailyKos) reports that President-elect Barack Obama is vetting community organizer and labor leader Mary Beth Maxwell for the position of labor secretary.
Maxwell is also a white, out lesbian mom with an adopted black son. Not that any of those identities necessarily qualify her for the job, but I’d like to think they give her the kind of diverse perspective that Obama himself seems to have.
Obama is also considering Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (both moms, but not lesbians) for the job. I’d have to give the edge to one of those two, in fact, if only because they’re a little more well known and would probably have an easier time gaining support. Regardless of who gets it, Maxwell will definitely make my Most Powerful Lesbian Moms in America list next year.
More news as I know it.
