This week, Helen and I look at Season Six of The L Word with a parent’s eye. What do we think about Bette’s ineptness with a thermometer? Her plans to adopt another child with Tina? What about Helena, Max, and even Shane when it comes to kiddies? Is there any reality in their portrayals? And what about a spinoff with suburban lesbian moms?
(Mild spoilers if you haven’t seen the first two episodes.)

Hands up! I’ve got a 5 year old and a 2 year old, and I STILL have to read the directions on those digital thermometers. Maybe it’s because the kids don’t get fevers often enough for me to remember what to do (touch wood) or maybe we can tell when they’ve got fevers and it hasn’t yet made a difference how high the temperature. I’m not a numbers gal. I know when my jeans fit and when they don’t without having to get on the scale. I’m defending Bette-THIS time.
I DO remember seasons past of Big Love where there were some sister-wives playing footsie under a table. If you had blinked, you would have missed it, but it happened. I asked my partner when we were getting a 3rd wife. She must still be thinking about it because she hasn’t yet replied.
OK, our apologies about the thermometer–but at least you can tell by touch when your kids have fevers, whereas Bette couldn’t even do that.
I’m still chuckling about your third wife comment….
Fair enough. I’m withdrawing my nomination for Bette for Mother of the Year. : )
