A very happy Father’s (s’) Day to all of the dads out there, to all the dads of those of us who have them, and to all the other parents who celebrate this day as yours.
I should also note that President Obama included two-dad families in his Father’s Day proclamation this year, as he did with two-mom families for Mother’s Day. It’s another presidential first—but I refer you to my Mother’s Day piece at Keen News Service for more context.
My dad is a regular and welcome presence in our son’s life, and while I don’t want to rely on him completely to teach our son what it means to “be a man” (seriously, Dad, those ties you wore in the 70s . . .), he has come in handy on occasion. And he enriches our son’s life (and mine) in many other ways, too.
For those of us raised with fathers: What are the lessons from your father(s) that you want to pass on to our children? What is the role of your father(s) in your own children’s lives?
