I’m passing along this message from Julia Li, a producer of the documentary “Out in America,” which will air nationally on PBS in 2011. She says “It’s a film that celebrates and explores a diverse spectrum of experiences in various LGBT communities, but there are a few voices that are still missing from the film.” In particular, she says, they are now looking for “Latina lesbian parents with school-age children.”
I’ve posted her message below. I am not involved in the project myself, and have no personal experience with the producers—please follow up with Li directly if you are interested (or pass the message along to anyone you may know who might be) and evaluate the opportunity for yourself. Note the tight deadline!
I’m trying to find a few women who would be open to speaking with us on camera about their personal experiences with coming out, falling in love, parenthood, dealing with prejudice, etc. We are aiming for diversity with this project, not just in terms of sexuality and gender, but also across the board in terms of ethnicity, socio-economic class, age, and geographical location. So right now, we’re specifically seeking to interview Latina lesbian parents with school-age children, to address LGBT issues from a viewpoint that is currently lacking in our film—ethnic minority same-sex parents.
If you think you might have some leads for me, please let me know as soon as possible. I would be very grateful if you could reach out to your network for me, or pass this email along. Unfortunately I have a very tight deadline; my last few interviews for this project need to be shot by the end of next week, so the sooner you can put me in touch with anybody, the better (either personal connections of yours or referrals). Therefore, I need to have touched base with any possible interviewees within the next couple of days. Sorry for the rush request!
