Hmmm… when I was a despondent teenage lesbian, I think a perky cheerful video like this is the last thing I could have related to. Hearing Dan Savage and Terry’s video would have meant a lot more to me. Regardless, I am so glad that the power of the internet is now bringing the “It Gets Better” message to so many youth, in so many different ways, and I hope all of them find some version of it that helps. I count myself very fortunate that when I was a teen, I knew a few older gays and lesbians who were able to convey the “It gets better” message in person, when I really needed to hear it.
Good points, S. I think that personal connection can be vital.
I also agree the song won’t resonate with everyone. Different things appeal to different teens. Let’s just hope enough people are doing enough different things that we impact as many people as possible.
