It’s Halloween, even though the snow on the ground here in the Northeast is making it seem more like Christmas. I thought I’d celebrate with an open thread on all topics Halloweeny, so jump in with a comment on your kid’s (s’) costume(s), your costume, your favorite costume from childhood, best Halloween recipes, or what scares you more than zombies.
Also, because my “Are Boys in Princess Dresses the Scariest Thing on Halloween?” post has gotten a number of comments, I want to recommend Jeffrey Self’s “Little Boy Witches” over at HuffPo. It’s an inspiring personal story on the same theme.
Hope you all have a sweet, spooky Halloween!
My family and I went as Tango, Roy and Silo. I think the best moment was while we were trick or treating down the block and a kid about 10 or 11 opened the door. My wife said, “Oh, are you Annie?” It was a really cool costume- little orphan Annie- so I made sure our daughter noticed. “Look, honey, she’s Annie.” The kid at the door smiled and corrected me. “He.” And then he gave our little penguin some candy.
I am humbled and proud to call that Annie my neighbor.
Clio, that’s a great costume idea! (And what great neighbors!)
We had a 4-year-old Captain America and a 2-year-old kitty cat who ditched her kitty ears early in the day, but got plenty of treats on cuteness alone.
I don’t like dressing up much these days, but as a kid I was Peter Pan for about 5 years in a row. Hmmm.
Scariest thing about Halloween this year is my son’s nut allergy. At 4 he doesn’t grasp the seriousness of it, but at least he doesn’t mind being supervised, and he’s content to trade the unacceptable stuff for toy cars and “good” candy.
What an awesome story!
