Over 100,000 children in the U.S. are awaiting foster or adoptive homes. The non-profit RaiseAChild.US wants to help them. On March 27, the organization announced it is partnering with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation on a pilot project to recruit LGBT foster and adoptive parents.
The partnership will produce recruitment events and media campaigns with outdoor, radio and television advertising in major cities across the U.S. The campaigns will feature gay and lesbian parents and their children. (And, I hope, bisexual and transgender parents, too, at some point.)
The organization launched in November 2011 with a media campaign in Southern California, partnering with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services and local adoption agencies. They gained over 200 prospective resource families within one month, according to a press release.
Interested prospective parents can complete a form at the RaiseAChild.US Web site for further information.
