This week’s quote comes from Catherine Couvert, a lesbian mom in Northern Ireland, who addresses her country’s failure to move ahead with a proposal allowing joint adoption by same-sex and unmarried couples.
She writes:
The so-called debates on same sex parents should be about children’s rights, not about religious morality…. I am a lesbian mother. My children have rights. What people forget when they have endless discussions over whether gays should be allowed to be parents, is that we already are parents.
So very true! We just (this week) got notice that our second parent adoption went through. I am so grateful to be living where I do. It’s hard to imagine that in 2012 we are still debating such things!
