Two new lesbian moms will soon be coming to your TV screens, in the form of Teri Polo (The West Wing) and Sherri Saum (Rescue Me). The pair will play the titular couple in The Fosters, a one-hour pilot being produced by Jennifer Lopez.
The Hollywood Reporter says the two will play Stef and Lena Foster, “a mixed-race lesbian couple who are parents to a biological son as well as several adopted children. When Lena decides to take in Callie, a troubled teen with an abusive past, the girl’s disruptive ways threaten to turn the Fosters’ lives upside down.” Stef (Polo) is a police officer; Lena (Saum) is a school principal.
Keeping in mind that their photos at Hollywood Reporter don’t show them in character, what do you think? Will they make a believable couple? Who else would you like to see play lesbian moms on TV?
(On a related television note, congratulations to ABC’s Modern Family, which won this year’s Emmy for Best Comedy Series, and to actor Eric Stonestreet, who plays gay dad Cameron Tucker on the show, and won for Supporting Comedy Actor.)
