I was feeling punchy yesterday when waiting to see if the Supreme Court would issue its decision on marriage equality. I’m in a more serious mood today, though, so I thought I’d share this video of Catriona and Cathy, a binational couple who are fighting to keep their family together despite the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
Catriona is a U.S. citizen and a native of Ireland. Cathy is from Ireland. The couple met in 2006 while trekking in the Himalayas,  married in May 2012, and are now mothers to a son from Guatemala and two daughters from Haiti.
The U.S. government denied Cathy’s second work visa earlier this year, however—meaning she would have to leave the U.S. The couple decided to work with the DOMA Project and file a green-card petition for Cathy as Catriona’s spouse. They are awaiting the outcome. Read more of their family story here.
