That Neat Blog’s “Mom, am I gay?” post was an easy choice for my Post of the Week. It’s about a straight mom’s response to her five-year-old son’s question — but the topic of talking with kids about being gay seems relevant to many of us.
The Give a Damn campaign mentioned this on its Facebook page the other day, and rightly so. Megan of That Neat Blog, a mom in Greensboro, North Carolina, explains how she responded to her son’s inquiry, “Mom, am I gay?” and clarified for him what being gay means.
She gave a great, age-appropriate response that could serve as a model for other parents. Since it’s a short post, I won’t excerpt any of it here — but go read it over at her blog, and be sure to read the comments there and on Give a Damn’s Facebook post. Gives me hope for the future.
