Today is Giving Tuesday, a new-ish, more altruistic counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, when we’re asked to give back to our communities and our world. Will you be giving (monetarily or otherwise) today or at other times during this holiday season?
In my own family, my spouse and I asked our 10-year-old son to think about where we should give this year. He suggested helping victims of the typhoon in the Philippines, so we asked him to chip in a token amount from his allowance that we’ll add to some from us and send to the Red Cross. Closer to home, we spent a day two weekends ago making sandwiches for a local food bank — a new activity for us, but one he really got into. (I think it was the giant jars of peanut butter.) We also always go through our closets at this time of year for old clothes to donate.
That’s just us. What are you doing to give or to teach your children to do so?

Happy giving!
