The American Military Partner Association (AMPA), the nation’s largest organization for partners, spouses, families, and allies of LGBT military and veterans, has showcased two two-mom families this week. I’m proud to say I know one of them.
My family and I met the Valenzuelas several years ago. My spouse is a former Air Force officer, and our kids were about the same age, so we hit it off. They’ve moved away from us, as military families do, but we’ve kept in touch, and it’s great to see them honored here after so many years of having to hide their family.
AMPA notes on its Facebook page:
Lt Col Liz Valenzuela is a United States Air Force Squadron Commander. Her wife, Bunny Valenzuela, was recently asked to sit on a commander’s spouses panel where she mentored the spouses of new commanders! Together for 13 years, they are DADT & DOMA survivors. They have 2 amazing milkids togethers.

And AMPA notes that AMPA member Meredith Rice, pictured below, was just selected as the Family Readiness Group Leader of her wife’s unit — over 200 Soldiers and their families.

Thanks to both of these amazing families — service members, spouses, and kids alike — who serve and sacrifice for our country.
