“Family Circle” Magazine Features Its 1st Same-Sex Parents

exclamationThe long-running women’s magazine Family Circle featured its first same-sex parents in the latest issue. Some readers, however, are objecting to the sweet family profile.

Michigan dads Chris and Bob Osner-Hackett and their two daughters are the highlight of the “Modern Life” column this month. They answer a number of questions about their favorite family activities, biggest challenges, and everyday life — and Chris shares his “secret family recipe” for pumpkin pie.

Unfortunately, the magazine, which began in 1932, has also received criticism for including a same-sex couple, HuffPo reports. Go read their coverage if you want to see any of the negative comments; I won’t repeat them here. Editor-in-Chief Linda Fears is standing by the couple, however, and told HuffPo that the magazine’s goal is “to be reflective of all families.”

Family Circle isn’t the first venerable women’s magazine (or, as I prefer to call them, household lifestyle magazine) to include gay-specific content. Ladies’ Home Journal in 2010 ran a major article on anti-LGBT bullying.

Kudos to Family Circle for its inclusivity — because let’s face it, same-sex-headed families like Carrot Pumpkin Cheesecake Muffins just as much as anyone else.

Go leave a supportive post on Family Circle’s Facebook page to show that you agree with its decision to feature same-sex parents.
