Aetna Features Florida Lesbian Mom Who Sued for Marriage, Adoption

Aleniers - AetnaInsurance giant Aetna has just launched a new video featuring Melanie Alenier, who along with her spouse Vanessa, helped successfully sue for equality in marriage and adoption in Florida.

Melanie is featured in the video along with a man named Stephen, and they are each asked to talk about their first loves. Initially, the viewer might think they are talking about each other—but both have same-sex loves.

“We have the perfect amount of fun together. We balance each other out, and it just works,” Melanie tells us about her life with Vanessa.

Stephen’s fiancé Todd told me in an e-mail, “Stephen and I live in Wayne, PA with our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Reichen and Finn, and own a full-service advertising agency—Viamark Advertising. We are currently planning our wedding, which is scheduled for Sat., Oct. 1, 2016—the day of our 20th anniversary. We greatly appreciate the support of our friends and family during our 18+ years together and want to thank Aetna and The Mod Agency for including us in their ground-breaking video.”

Aetna has scored a perfect 100 on HRC’s Corporate Equality Index since its inception in 2002. It recently signed on to an amicus brief for Obergefell v. Hodges, one of the marriage equality cases being heard by the U.S. Supreme Court.
