Today is the third national Give OUT Day, so I hope you’ll consider giving something to your favorite national or local LGBTQ nonprofit. Any day is a good day to give, of course, but doing so en masse like this helps show the power of our community and allies.
Just donate online through GiveOUTDay.org to one of the many local and national LGBTQ nonprofits participating, including community centers, arts groups, organizers, clinics, student clubs, sports leagues, media outlets, and more.
Give OUT Day is “an annual, 24-hour online fundraising competition that unites the LGBTQ community nationally to raise critically needed funds to support the diverse array of LGBTQ nonprofits.” Its organizer is Bolder Giving, whose mission is “to inspire and support people to give at their full lifetime potential.” Obviously, that amount varies from person to person—but if you’re thinking of making any charitable donations this year, even in a small amount, why not make them today? (There’s a minimum donation of $10.) Organizations receiving donations from the greatest number of unique donors may win additional cash prizes, so even small donations have an impact.
Since its inception, Give OUT Day has raised over $1.6 million for over 500 LGBTQ organizations from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
As always, of course, any donations you make are at your own risk, and I encourage you to read all the details on the Give OUT Day site. I hope you’ll consider participating! Remember to involve your kids, too, in gathering their pennies, helping to choose an organization, or just watching you make the donation while you explain why).
