Tylenol adds to its track record of supporting the LGBTQ community with a wonderful new campaign showing “How We Family.” Watch the first ad, by Academy Award-winning director Dustin Lance Black, below.
The ad starts with the question, “When were you first considered a family?” and then asks, “When did you first fight to be considered a family?” The brilliant part is that the ad is about many different types of families. Even the second question leads to images not just of same-sex couples, but also single parents and multiracial families. It’s a nice way of emphasizing our commonalities as well as celebrating our differences.
The campaign will run for several months, and I hope they expand the featured families even further in future videos. I’d love to see clearly transgender parents, for example.
Tylenol ran another great campaign last December, recreating Norman Rockwell’s classic “Freedom from Want” painting with several diverse families, including one with two moms. And a member of their brand team, a lesbian considering a family, wrote a guest post for Mombian back in 2012, about what her company’s support of LGBTQ families means to her personally.
