Casey Stoney, an English professional football (soccer) player and former England captain, as well as a lesbian mom, talked with The Telegraph this week about her family.
Stoney, who captained team in the last Olympics, still plays professionally for London’s Arsenal F.C. Her partner Megan Harris, was also a professional player. The two had twins at the end of 2014. She spoke with The Telegraph about coming out, their journey to starting a family through in vitro fertilization (IVF), wanting to donate her own eggs to help others in return, answering the awkward questions many of us same-sex parents get in supermarkets, juggling work and family, and the sexism that still hinders women’s football.
The piece was in honor of Alternative Family Week in the U.K., which “helps give advice for would-be mums and dads, and will help raise awareness of different families.”
In a previous interview with The Independent, Stoney spoke about the uncertainty of being an over-30 player who is supporting a family, what she might like to do once she stops playing, how she and Harris divide domestic duties, and more about IVF.
Whether it’s dribbling soccer balls or handling dribbling babies, it sounds like these two moms are making it work.
