Continuing this week’s theme of pregnancy on the masculine side of the gender spectrum, let’s ask: What does the discerning yet pregnant butch or otherwise masculine-identified person wear?
Lindsay King-Miller tackled the topic this past Wednesday in “Where do I find maternity clothes for my non-binary body?” at After Ellen, and shares the story of her genderqueer butch partner Charlie’s search for pregnancy wear. She writes: “We’re looking for the butch undergarment equivalent of the Holy Grail: a bra that’s supportive without being painful, in a large cup size, without too much lace or other girliness.”
She’s not the only one to be seeking better masculine pregnancy duds. I asked about them several years ago myself (though not for me, as I was never pregnant and don’t identify as butch), and a number of you were kind enough to share your own answers in the comments. Graphic artist A.K. Summers has also touched on clothing choices (and much more) in her online graphic memoir, Pregnant Butch. More recently, Butchbaby & Co. was founded as “the first androgynous maternity line for queer individuals.”
