I’m very excited to be giving away tickets to Lincoln Center Theater’s DADA WOOF PAPA HOT, a new play about gay dads by Peter Parnell, co-author of And Tango Makes Three.
The show, directed by Scott Ellis and featuring John Benjamin Hickey, is now in previews at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, part of Lincoln Center Theater in New York City. It officially opens November 9, and I have a pair of tickets to give away for a date between November 11, 2015 and Jan 3, 2016.
Parnell is a gay dad himself. He and his partner, Tango co-author Justin Richardson, became parents in 2009. Although many readers here may know him best for Tango, he is in fact an award-winning playwright and screenwriter, whose credits include being executive story editor and co-producer for several seasons of The West Wing.
DADA WOOF PAPA HOT sounds like it draws on his own experience:
It’s a fall night in New York City, and two couples who recently met at a parents group are out to dinner at the hot new restaurant. The foursome share photos of their kids, trade war stories from pre-school applications, and discuss their work. Alan and Rob, and Scott and Jason find plenty of common ground as gay couples raising kids in the city, and a play date with their children is set.
As we follow these two pairs through their developing friendship, the conversation deepens from afterschool pick-up to the cracks in their marriages — struggles which are mirrored in the relationships of their straight friends as well. DADA WOOF PAPA HOT, a new play by Peter Parnell (QED), smartly captures the urban parent experience, particularly at this head-spinning cultural moment. #LoveWins, or so the marriage equality campaign has decreed. But what happens next? What pieces of your former self are lost when becoming a parent? Is gaining entry and acceptance into mainstream culture worth giving up what made you unique?
Excellent questions.
Let’s do something fun for the contest: The winner will be the first person to leave a comment (and a valid e-mail address) on this post at my blog with the correct answer to the question: What’s the fastest species of penguin, based on underwater swimming speed?
Rules and restrictions: U.S. and Canada residents only, please. One entry per person. No purchase necessary. Don’t worry if your comment is moderated; once I approve it, it will appear based on the time you submitted it. Spam comments, including off-topic or purely commercial comments, will not count. If you are or have been a paying advertiser (or an employee of a paying advertiser) on Mombian, you can’t play. The winner is responsible for travel and accommodations (if necessary) to see the play.
You must also leave a valid e-mail address with your comment. Don’t leave a postal address, though. If you win, I’ll contact you by e-mail and share your name and e-mail address with the play’s publicist, solely so they can make arrangements with you about the show date and getting you your tickets.
Yes, please!! :) Gentoo! :)
You got it, Jan! I’ll send you an e-mail to get arrangements rolling! Thanks for being a Mombian reader.
Thanks! :)
