Here are some of the stories about LGBTQ parents making headlines recently. Catch up on what you may have missed!
- Portugal’s parliament overturned a presidential veto to give same-sex couples full adoption rights, and two-woman couples access to assisted reproductive services.
- South Australia’s parliament passed a bill allowing two-mom couples to be on their children’s birth certificates.
- Florida, however, is still debating whether to do this. Really, Florida?
- Speaking of Australia, there’s a great new public art exhibit in Sydney featuring children with LGBT parents–the brainchild of photographer Jez Smith and artist Casey Legler. They say the project “aims to increase the visibility of children, teens and young adults currently living with LGBTIQ parents in Australia, and show the beauty and diversity of modern Australian families.”
- The Kentucky Supreme Court ruled that a nonbiological mother has the right to petition in court for custody of the daughter she helped create and was raising with the biological mother. It’s still a long way from her actually having custody, but it’s a start.
- Speaking of nonbiological moms, if you haven’t read Lacey Vorrasi-Banis’ “I Am My Baby’s Mother, Even Though I Didn’t Give Birth To Her” at Romper, go do so now. It’s a wonderful reflection.
- Finally, WWE star, mixed-martial arts fighter, and actor (Guardians of the Galaxy) Dave Bautista revealed he has a lesbian mom. Bautista was (emphatically) criticizing boxer Manny Pacquiao’s negative remarks about gay people.
Oh, Florida…
