There are many reasons I support Hillary Clinton for president. One was made very clear at last night’s Democratic Convention—but don’t listen to me: listen to the Mothers of the Movement.
The Mothers are a group of Black women who have lost children to gun violence or police action: Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner; Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin; Maria Hamilton, the mother of Dontre Hamilton; Wanda Johnson, the mother of Oscar Grant; Lucy McBath, the mother of Jordan Davis; Cleopatra Pendleton, the mother of Hadiya Pendleton; Lezley McSpadden, the mother of Michael Brown; and Geneva Reed-Veal, the mother of Sandra Bland.
Here are the Mothers at the Convention:
and here’s a video about Clinton’s meeting with the women last November:
I wish they didn’t have to be there. I wish their children were still alive. But I am awed and humbled by these strong, resilient, and courageous women.
