Here’s your five-minute Monday feel-good video: a new PSA from Our Family Coalition talking about the past, present, and future of LGBTQ families.
Our Family Coalition has been one of the leading organizations helping LGBTQ families over the past 20 years. Their work is focused on California, but has had, I would argue, a larger impact (and I say that as a resident of the opposite coast). The Golden State has long been a leader in showing the world what LGBTQ inclusion and acceptance can look like—and Our Family Coalition has made sure LGBTQ parents and our children are part of that picture. Among other things, the organization is now helping to implement the new state guidelines requiring that schools include the contributions and lives of LGBT people in the teaching of California and U.S. history.
Our Family Coalition’s executive director, Judy Appel, recently announced she is stepping down after 10 years in the role. Thanks to her for tireless work on behalf of our families, and best wishes in her new endeavors. Renata Moreira-Bilella, communications and policy director, will be interim executive director during the board’s search for a new ED.
While some of the video below focuses on the organization, much also shows families talking about themselves. Enjoy, and marvel once again at our resilience and pride.
