A new video shows the harm in anti-LGBTQ bullying—and encourages people to make a positive difference.
The video, part of a new anti-bullying campaign from the UN’s Free and Equal initiative for LGBTI equality, was written and drawn by Daniel Errico (whose The Bravest Knight Who Ever Lived and Rosaline are cute children’s books depicting same-sex relationships). I love that the video emphasizes the role that adults play in modeling behavior.
Charles Radcliffe, chief, equality and non-discrimination, U.N. Human Rights Office, New York, wrote recently at HuffPo about the campaign, noting:
A quarter of children in the U.S. are affected by bullying, and that percentage is tripled for LGBT youth. Data from other countries tells a similar story: in Thailand, more than half of LGBT-identifying students reported being bullied in the past month alone. In Serbia, 60 per cent of high school children surveyed thought violence against gay students was “justified”, and 13 per cent admitted to having beaten up someone they thought to be gay.
