Nicole and Kristan want to start a family, and they’re taking us along on the journey as they venture into the world of foster-to-adopt care, facing the emotional and sometimes funny challenges of bureaucracy, childproofing, and patience. Watch a trailer.
One of the parents-to-be, Nicole Opper, is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker who may be best known to readers here as director and producer of the 2010 feature documentary Off and Running, which tells the story of Avery, a Black teen who had been adopted as an infant by two White Jewish lesbians. Off and Running was an Audience Favorite at the Tribeca Film Festival and winner of ten international awards including Best Documentary at Outfest and Best Documentary Screenplay at Silverdocs.
Opper now turns the camera on herself and Kristan in The F Word, a short, comedic documentary series that will be broadcast in six minute episodes on PBS’ Indie Lens Storycast starting September 14. Watch a trailer below, and stay tuned to their website for episodes and further details. It looks to be great!
