I’m tremendously excited to announce the evolution of my annual Blogging for LGBTQ Families Day into #LGBTQFamiliesDay! Please save the date—June 4, 2018—to join in support and celebration of LGBTQ families throughout social media, even if you don’t have a blog!
Since 2006, the day has brought together LGBTQ individuals, their family members, and allies to blog or post on social media in celebration and support of LGBTQ families. This year, I’m changing the name to emphasize all types of social media sharing and posting, not just blogging. (Fact is, I’ve welcomed all kinds of posting for several years now, but thought it was time to change the name to reflect that and to encourage non-bloggers to join the fun.)
I’m also thrilled that once again, the event will be sponsored by Family Equality Council, who are stepping up to help elevate our voices even further (and who provided this year’s lovelier-than-ever image). Please stay tuned for further details about what’s in store.
To participate:
- Post, tweet, or share on any social media channel (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, your own blog, or anything else) in celebration and support of LGBTQ families on June 4, 2018, and include the hashtag #LGBTQFamiliesDay.
- Follow the hashtag throughout the day and share the stories, images, and thoughts from other participants.
- You may also submit the links to your own posts as in previous years so we can include them in a list of participants for all to see.
Please note that #LGBTQFamiliesDay will be Monday, June 4, a few days later than in the past few years—but we wanted to have our celebration at the beginning of a week. As always, the event is held at the start of June, between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, in order to honor both, but also to highlight that not all families fit into the traditional structure of one mother and one father. Additionally, June is LGBTQ Pride Month.
I hope you’ll take part by posting, sharing, and spreading the word!
