Kick Off National Adoption Month with These Stories

Rainbow handsNovember is National Adoption Month, so let’s kick it off with a few stories for and about queer adoptive families to inform and inspire!

  • Prizm magazine shares the journeys to parenthood of several same-sex couples in Ohio, including two adoptive ones.  Tori and Tia Kolasa have taken in nine foster children since 2015. They adopted a two-year-old in July and are hoping to finalize the adoption of another two-year-old girl this fall. Andrew Kohn and Don Jones adopted through an LGBTQ-friendly adoption agency and now have two children.
  • John Sherry writes for Family Equality Council about becoming a foster and adoptive parent with his husband Wes.
  • Family Equality also has a special National Adoption Month episode of its excellent Outspoken Voices podcast. In the 30-minute episode, Julie Kruse, Family Equality Council’s director of federal policy and Schylar Baber, CEO of Youth Dynamics of Montana, join host Emily McGranachan to share personal stories and discuss what LGBTQ youth and parents are facing in the child welfare system.

Stay tuned for additional stories, resources, and more throughout the month! (And if you’d like to share your own story, please let me know!)
