#LGBTQFamiliesDay is this Monday, June 3. There are lots of ways you can participate in this 14th annual day of social media posting and sharing to celebrate and support LGBTQ families. At a time when our families are under attack, the need for visibility is greater than ever. Here’s what you need to know!
- How do I participate?
- Post, tweet, or share on any social media channel in celebration and support of LGBTQ families on June 3, 2019, and include the hashtag #LGBTQFamiliesDay.
- Follow the hashtag throughout the day and share the stories, images, and thoughts from other participants.
- If you post on your own blog or social media channel, you may also submit the links to those posts, and I’ll add them to the master list here at Mombian on June 3, 2019. Please make sure submitted posts are set to “Public” viewing. (For Facebook here’s how to do that. Then click the date/time stamp of your Facebook post to go to that post’s specific page, e.g.:and copy that URL from your browser’s address bar to submit.)
- How do you define “family”? However you want. That’s the point!
- I’m not LGBTQ. May I participate? Of course! #LGBTQFamiliesDay is meant to bring together people who are LGBTQ as well as our families and allies. It’s a celebration of LGBTQ families whether you’re part of one, know one, or just want to support them.
- What do I have to say? Anything you want that celebrates and/or supports LGBTQ families. It could be a simple expression of support, emojis, a personal anecdote, family photo or video, political commentary, media review, or poem, among other things. If you’re stuck for ideas, try: “I’m celebrating family diversity on #LGBTQFamiliesDay today!” Just don’t forget the #LGBTQFamiliesDay hashtag!
- I’ll be hiking in the wilderness/on a plane/getting my wisdom teeth out on June 3. What do I do? Most social media apps allow you to schedule posts ahead of time to publish later.
- How can I use the event image? Right click the link (Mac users: click and hold) the image on this post and choose “Download image,” “Save image as…” or “Save picture as….” Follow the prompts in the dialogue box to save to your computer. Upload to your social media account as you would any image. Link it to https://mombian.com/lgbtqfamiliesday if you can. (We’d also love to see you post images of your own families; you don’t have to use ours.)
Thanks to Family Equality for their ongoing support of this event!
