This roundup is full of thoughtful, mostly longer pieces, including ones about being lesbian, bisexual, and nonbinary parents, and coming out after a heterosexual marriage and kids. Come have a read!
- Jennifer Berney’s piece “Becoming Family” at Longreads “explores how queer families challenge traditional notions of heredity and paternity.”
- Jamie Bruesehoff explores in a piece at Romper “Why Pride Feels Different This Year,” and looks at the relationship between party and protest.
- Rachel Anderson’s “Soccer: Dividing and Uniting One Family Since 2008” at Medium is only partly about soccer. Mostly, it reminds us: “Becoming a parent assures adventure but the specifics of where and what and how are unknowable. These small human charges will develop interests, curiosities and proficiencies way beyond your own scope. They will change your world.”
- Brianna Sharpe’s “I’m married to a man — and queerer than ever,” at Xtra is a thoughtful piece about one woman’s experience as a bisexual parent.
- Melisa Raney at CNN shares her story, “I was married with 2 kids when I realized I’m gay.”
- Cara Gormally’s “Science, Luck & Love: A Memoir About How Two Moms Made a Baby” at Mutha Magazine is what the title says—in graphic (comic) format.
- Dutch magazine OneWorld profiles Mik Bron about his experience being a nonbinary parent. [Masculine pronoun used per Bron’s request, per the article.]
- Let’s end with something shorter and lighter: Marja-Lewis Ryan, the writer/showrunner for The L Word sequel Generation Q, hinted to Entertainment Weekly that L Word characters Bette and Tina’s daughter, now 16, would be part of the new show.
