The events of the past few weeks—and the entire history of our country since 1619—have shown just how dire the need is to dismantle racism. Next Tuesday, June 23, Family Equality is hosting a national day of action to encourage families to “deepen their anti-racism work” through tangible, age-appropriate actions for both parents and kids. I’ll be participating and I hope many of you will, too.
Family Equality hopes the National Day of Action: LGBTQ+ Families for Black Lives will encourage LGBTQ families to “maintain conversations in our households and communities that will continue long after LGBTQ+ Families for Black Lives Day of Action ends.”
“With this special of Day of Action, we stand with the millions of people across the U.S. and around the world, marching to raise awareness of the many injustices facing the Black community,” said Serena Johnson, chief program officer at Family Equality. “As the leading national organization for LGBTQ+ families, our goal is to build sustainable programs and provide ongoing resources for our families to support the change we want to see. The fight must not stop when the hashtags and protests end.”
