Save the date! Tuesday, June 1, 2021, is the 16th annual #LGBTQFamiliesDay, a time for storytelling and sharing to celebrate and support LGBTQ families—and everyone is invited!
The event aims to elevate the experiences of LGBTQ families and their allies, raising awareness of their diversity, their challenges, and their joys. Since 2006 (originally under the name Blogging for LGBTQ Families Day), the day has brought together LGBTQ individuals, their family members, and allies to blog, tweet, post, and share on social media in celebration and support of LGBTQ families.
I’m thrilled that once again, the event will be sponsored by Family Equality, which has been providing our families with community events, family-building resources, and advocacy at all levels for nearly four decades.
To participate in #LGBTQFamiliesDay:
- Post, tweet, or share on any social media channel (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, your own blog, or anything else) in celebration and support of LGBTQ families on June 1, 2021, and include the hashtag #LGBTQFamiliesDay. Share a family photo, an anecdote about your family, some longer reflections, or just some words of support. It’s up to you!
- Follow the hashtag throughout the day and share the stories, images, and thoughts from other participants.
- You may also submit the links to your own posts as in previous years so we can include them in a list of participants for all to see.
We may also have a few more goodies in store—stay tuned!
When I created this event, I put it at the beginning of June, not only because it is the start of Pride Month, but also because it is halfway between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, in recognition of the fact that not all families fit into the structure of one mother and one father. Additionally, June is LGBTQ Pride Month.
I hope you’ll take part by posting, sharing, and spreading the word! (Left click one of the images below to see it full size. You can then right click and save it for sharing, if you like.)
