New Online Tool to Help Protect and Support LGBTQ Families

After the overturning of Roe v. Wade, ongoing attacks on transgender children and youth, and more than 300 anti-LGBTQ state bills introduced in 2022, Family Equality has launched a new online tool to help families wondering what to do.

Path2FamilyEquality

Path2FamilyEquality offers answers and tips about:

  • Legally protecting your family and securing your parentage
  • Finding LGBTQ-affirming abortion care, along with financial and logistical support
  • Understanding the legal landscape for trans children and youth, making your state and community safer for them, and, if needed, finding LGBTQ-friendly resources for moving elsewhere
  • Opportunities for peer-to-peer connection

“Our families are facing near-impossible realities,” said Family Equality CEO Stacey Stevenson in a statement. “They’re concerned about the security of their marriages, access to critical healthcare, and the safety and well-being of their children. They’re desperate and disheartened—and many are moving or already have moved to more affirming communities. They need quick and easy answers, especially in times of crisis, and that’s where Path2FamilyEquality comes in. It provides a safe, online tool to deliver resources into people’s hands fast. Our families need the necessary resources to stay informed, create a plan, and find hope.”

Some of what’s in the first two bullet points above is also in the What LGBTQ+ Families Need to Know (PDF) guide created by Family Equality, COLAGE, GLAD, and the National Center for Lesbian Rights, but Path2FamilyEquality also has additional resources, including helpful links to maps of current laws, and is nicely formatted to work well on mobile or other devices.

I hope you’ll also take a look at the “Information and Resources for Queer Parents After the Fall of Roe” that I’ve posted, and my interview with two LGBTQ family law experts on “How LGBTQ Parents Can Protect Their Families After Dobbs.” There’s overlap in all of these resources, but each has some things the others don’t, each is laid out somewhat differently, and each may catch your eye in different ways. Mostly, know that there are resources available and caring people like those at Family Equality willing to help you during these difficult times.
