The onePULSE website explains:

Working with the families and loved ones of those killed, onePULSE Foundation established the 49 Legacy Scholarships in 2019 based on the respective victims’ interests, careers or aspirations. As an extension of their impact on our world, the scholarships inspire and empower students who share similar dreams, ambitions and goals.

The 49 scholarships awarded each year are for up to $10,000 for use at an accredited institution of higher learning, including career and technical schools. Students may apply no matter their age, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, disability, or faith.

The deadline for this year is January 31, 2023, and recipients will be notified in spring 2023.

Recipients in the past three years have come from across the United States, with “a common thread of community service, leadership and advocacy.” onePULSE says it considers many factors in choosing scholarship recipients, including “the applicant’s personal story, financial need or independence, strong academic or self-improvement interest, and proven track record of leadership, community involvement and/or work experience.” Preference will be given to immediate family members of the 49 victims, as well as survivors of the tragedy and first responders to the event.
