Pro hockey players and spouses Brianne Jenner and Hayleigh Cudmore, along with one of their three kids, star in a new commercial from Hyundai Canada with a sweet twist.
Jenner, who has two Olympic gold medals and a silver with Team Canada, is captain of the Professional Women’s Hockey League’s (PWHL’s) Ottawa Charge. Cudmore, a lawyer, is now retired from hockey, but formerly played for the Calgary Inferno of the now-defunct Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL), where Jenner played, too. Both also played together in college for Cornell University.
In an interview with The Hockey News last February, Jenner talks of “the gift of being a mom,” explaining, “I have to really be in the present and focus on my kids and it takes my mind off hockey and that’s a great balance.” (See my post from last week on another two-mom pro hockey couple dispensing wisdom about work-life balance.)
The Hyundai commercial shows another aspect of family balance and spousal support. I don’t want to spoil the twist, so I’ll just say I love that the ad is not only about caring for our kids, but also about caring for our whole family. A nearly identical Hyundai Canada commercial stars Claude Giroux of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators, his spouse Ryanne Giroux, and one of their two children. Kudos to Hyundai Canada for highlighting the similarities among different types of families. Love IS love.
Hyundai Canada was recognized earlier this year as a Five-star Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Employer by Canadian Human Resources Reporter and as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers by Mediacorp. It has a multi-year Canadian partnership with the PWHL that names Hyundai as the first-ever Official Vehicle of the PWHL.
