Drag stars Fay and Fluffy are returning this week with the second season of their award-winning preschool variety show, which will be premiering globally for the first time. It’s like a drag story time in your living room—but you don’t have to clean glitter out of the carpet. See a trailer here.
The colorful Fay (she/her) and Fluffy (they/them) host The Fabulous Show with Fay and Fluffy in front of a live, interactive audience of kids, sharing stories, songs, and silliness, as well as conversations about kindness, family, friendship, creativity, and more. Each episode includes a book read-aloud, while animated segments, puppet friends, and studio guests add to the fun. It’s joyously queer but not always focused on queer-specific topics, and it’s full of energy but not as frenetic as some kids’ shows—in other words, it’s nicely balanced.
Special guests for Season 2 include LGBTQ+ comedian and content creator Kalen Allen, multi-Juno award winning children’s performers Splash’N Boots, Canadian performer, director, and presenter Sook-Yin Lee, Inuvialuk artist Nanook Gordon, Grammy Award-winning hip-hop children’s music group Alphabet Rockers, Bollywood dancer Vaishnavi Naik, disability advocate Spencer West, Olympian and world champion hockey player Jayna Hefford (now the EVP of hockey operations for the PWHL), and more.
The Canada-based show, created by Lopii Productions (Georgina and Rennata López), won the 2023 Shaw Rocket Fund Kids’ Choice Award and the 2023 Youth Media Alliance Award of Excellence for Best Preschool Series, and was a finalist for the 2023 Japan Prize and nominated for five Canadian Screen Awards.
JP Kane (he/him), who plays Fay, is a queer-identified educator and performer. He has been teaching since 1997, currently in a kindergarten classroom, and has been performing as Fay since 2007. Kaleb Robertson (he/him), who plays Fluffy, is a queer, transgender man and Toronto-based cultural producer who organizes and hosts events, DJs, and does workshops and speaking engagements. He’s also been a child care provider and is a licensed wedding official.
