The new single “Pronoun Party,” from Miss Tutti and The Fruity Band, is a fun, lighthearted kids’ song that’s perfect for Pride or any time of year. Listen here (and learn about some other pronoun-themed kids’ songs, too)!
The bouncy tune takes us along with three musician friends (each of whom uses different pronouns), as they head to a party, instruments in hand. It’s a simple premise, like all the best kids’ songs, and bound to be a delightful earworm. (Ask me how I know.)
Miss Tutti and The Fruity Band is “a musical children’s project celebrating themes of body confidence, inclusivity, and LGBTQ+ representation.” The group is led by music educator Gracie Nash (aka Miss Tutti), along with New York City musicians and educators including Emmy nominee Emma Jayne (The Tonight Show), Laura Dadap (Nickelodeon), Dan Corica (Theatreworks), Olivia Griffin (Little Shop Of Horrors), and Scott Still (New York Pops). “Pronoun Party” is the first single off their upcoming album, which should be out later this summer.
Listen to the song below. (If you’re logged into a Spotify account, you should be able to hear the whole thing, otherwise it’s just a preview. You can also listen in full on other streaming services, including Apple Music and Amazon Music.)
“Pronoun Party” is not, however, the first kids’ song about pronouns. Others include:
- “She, He, They (A Pronoun Song),” by Carrie Ferguson;
- “What’s Your Name?” by Mandy Morris;
- “Call Them ‘They'” by Emily Joy, on The Trans and Nonbinary Kids Mix album;
- and the identically named 2022 song, “Pronoun Party” by duo Again Again (because one can never have too much partying about pronouns).
You should also have a listen to Miss Tutti and The Fruity Band’s entire 2024 album, Confidence Juice, with fun, retro-pop tunes on a range of affirming themes, including family diversity, body positivity, self-confidence, and expansive gender expression. (And if you’re in the Chicago area, you can catch them live at Kidzapalooza in just over a month.)
After that, check out the other LGBTQ-inclusive kids’ songs and albums in my database (which is mostly books, but not entirely) for additional ones that include nonbinary characters (but aren’t about pronouns per se), as well as ones featuring LGBTQ people and families of other identities.
Finally, while Miss Tutti’s “Pronoun Party” song is unrelated to the 2022 picture book Payden’s Pronoun Party, by Blue Jaryn, they might make a good pairing. Listen and then read, or vice versa—because it’s always a good time to celebrate one’s pronouns, the little marks of identity that mean so much.
